The photo  is  of Nellie Bly who in 1889 decided to take up the Jules Verne challenge of Around the World in 80 days herself. She did it in 72 days. Nellie was also a wonderful investigative reporter who led a fascinating life. At one point she had herself committed to an asylum in order to write an expose '10 Days in the Madhouse'. Inspector Chard will meet a female reporter in a future adventure - but unfortunately not Nellie

  This time a location from Sabrina's Teardrop (credit to Barry Jennings for the photo). It's Princess Street, #shrewsbury where May visits the YWCA. Incidentally, whilst I'm at it, you may recall that the book features a dog called a Boerboel. I came across the breed during my research but I'd never actually seen one in real life. Well, 2 weeks ago I came across a dog that was half Boerboel, half Corso. A massive beast but more likely to drown you in drool than savage you. One thing was certain, if the dog decided to launch itself, the owner wouldn't have had a hope in hell of stopping it. Thankfully this one seem to have been blessed with a soppy gene.
